Qingyuan: Initial probe confirms sulfur-fumigated bamboo shoots; seizure and traceback underway

Qingyuan Market Supervision Administration reported that online claims of illegal sulfur fumigation of ma bamboo shoots at individual sites were initially verified. Illegal processing materials and products have been seized, police have taken action against those involved, and a traceback is underway.

On September 18, 2026, the Qingyuan Market Supervision Administration issued a notice regarding online reports of illegal sulfur fumigation of ma bamboo shoots at individual sites in the city. The bureau immediately joined with public security and agriculture authorities to conduct on-site verification. According to the notice, an initial review found the video reports to be true.

The verification confirmed that the illegal sulfur fumigation of ma bamboo shoots at the individual sites depicted in the video did occur.
