According to Food Safety News, Deano’s Pasta of Somerville, MA, is recalling 20 pounds of Pear and Pecorino Triangoli Ravioli. The product is packaged in 1-pound bags, frozen, and may contain undeclared Lobster. It was distributed in Massachusetts between Aug. 8 and Sept. 22.
The report stated the recall was initiated after a customer complaint led to an internal audit discovering that product containing Lobster was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of the allergen. The affected lot codes are 090126126, 082526126, 081826126, and 073126126, located on the product label under best by date. No illnesses have been reported to date.
According to the risk statement in the report, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to crustacean shellfish, including lobster, run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products. The risk applies only to this specific allergic population, not to general consumers.
The company has initiated the recall and urges consumers not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. The report did not mention further regulatory notices or penalties.
